B-AXIS ROTARY BRAKE ALIGNMENT TOOL

One of my main projects was to design a tooling aid to increase efficiency on the production floor. At that time, the assembly workers were using a metal flat head screwdriver to pry-align the rotary brake ring to be concentric to the rotary gearbox. Using a metal screwdriver would cause scratching on the gearbox and rotary brake. On average, it would take 45 minutes to 1 hour for an assembly worker to dial-in the tolerance of 0.001”. As a temporary solution, I ordered nylon automotive panel trim tools with the highest percentage fill of glass fibers for stiffness. This temporary solution did not work, as the nylon pry tools would flex and not have enough leverage to move the rotary brake. I began prototyping a push tool that would allow for fine increments of adjustment while still being able to rotate the gearbox to dial indicate the rotary brake.

EC-400 CAST STACKING TIME STUDY

I conducted a time study of the EC-400 Cast Stacking where I documented additional or missing steps of the assembly process to improve the quality of work instructions.
